E-Portfolio: Cutting List
A cutting list is used to help show how much materials
you will need to cut to size to allow you to manufacture
your product, as well as the size of the materials. This
allows you to accurately price the cost to manufacture
your project, and look at where potential cost savings
can be made.
Using CAD in your design portfolio and developing your
idea in CAD allows you to produce a cutting list with accurate sizes very quickly.
This page is entirely up to you how you how you present it and can just be the table
above or it can be a mixture of some of the details above in the table that you are
going to explore and your own columns. You could present the following:
- Quality Assurance checks
- Manufacturing methods
- Joining techniques
- Materials etc.
- Flat packed design configurations
Produce a table with the following headings. You can add images into the first column called part. Hover over the headings for more information.
PART
Break down your project into its individual parts. These can be found on your flat-packed
design, set by step design or exploded view. You can stick an image of each part
in the rows below.
Hint: to make your life easier draw a box that just fits around your part and add
sizes. You can then add an overall length and width to this part.
SIZE
You need to add the size needed for the peace of material. This is usually the overall
length and width in mm.
Hint: to make your life easier draw a box that just fits around your part and add
sizes. You can then add an overall length and width to this part. Add at least a
mm tolerance to allow the shape to fit on the material.
QUANTITY
This is the number of pieces of material you will need?
