EXTENSION TASKS: 2D DESIGN CAD for Beginners
T
TechSoft created 2D Design for users who require sophisticated drawing and design features, but don’t want to spend a lifetime learning to use them. Although designed with professional capability, its ease of use means that 2D Design is the CAD standard for the vast majority of UK secondary schools. Whether you need to produce traditional engineering drawings, colourful ‘free-form’ designs for embroidery, or smart graphical presentation sheets, 2D Design has been carefully developed to give you all the tools you need – and all in one place.

Although we use sketch up to produce our CAD drawings, we transfer them to 2D design to add final details and cut out on the laser cutters

CAD (Computer Aided Design) is used in product design and BTEC engineering to assist in the manufacture products by hand as well as using the laser cutters, micro-router and the 3D printer found in the workshops.

CAD creates shapes in three dimensions (x, y and z).

It uses intuitive tools such as dimensioning, extruding and rounding edges to create wire-frame and solid models.

CAD is defined as:

….CAD (computer-aided design) software is used by architects, engineers, drafters, artists, and others to create precision drawings or technical illustrations. CAD software can be used to create two-dimensional (2-D) drawings or three-dimensional (3-D) models...
