Product Design prepares pupils to participate in tomorrow’s rapidly changing technologies. Pupils learn to think and intervene creatively to improve the quality of life. The subject calls for pupils to become autonomous and creative problem solvers. Product Design offers you a unique opportunity to identify and solve real problems through designing and manufacturing prototypes and models of real life products that could be put into production. Pupils will develop skills by designing, modelling and making imaginative, innovative, creative well made products made from a range of different materials that you will need to package and advertise using a range of different mediums and techniques. Pupils must also take into account issues such as sustainability, impact on society and the environment and a range of engineering principles to model and manufacture models and working prototypes using cutting edge CAD and the use of 3D printing,laser cutting and 3D micro-router. The final outcome that pupils will produce can consist of a high quality and well finished prototype or a final solution. Description Core Skills Reason Assessment

The Edexcel BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Award in Engineering is vocationally-related qualifications, where learners develop knowledge and understanding to achieve a broad-based introduction to engineering. It provides underpinning knowledge, understanding and practical skills that reflect the needs of employers and higher and further education professionals.

This course will be taught over 2 years (year 10 and 11), with 120 guided learning hours (GLH) committed to BTEC itself. Students will complete 2 core units (60 GLH) and 2 specialist units (60 GLH).

Pupils studying Textile Technology will develop their knowledge and understanding of the Textile Industry. They will consider the form and function of different fabrics, investigate new and innovative material technologies, look at the world of fashion, the history of fashion and current fashion designers, consider the environmental impact of the textile industry and learn techniques of embellishing textiles. Throughout the course they will be given opportunities to design and make a range of exciting and innovative textile items. The final outcome that pupils will produce can consist of a high quality and well finished prototype or a final solution. Pupils studying Food Technology will be given the opportunity to learn about all aspects of the Food Industry. This course looks at how food products are designed and made, starting with new product development to the final product being sold in the supermarket. This is a ‘hands on’ course where pupils are taught through practical experiences. As part of this course pupils will study the following - nutrition, food trends, properties and function of food ingredients, environmental issues affecting the food industry, food legislation, manufacturing and food designers. The final outcome that pupils will produce can consist of a high quality and well finished prototype or a final solution. Electronic Products Technology offers pupils a unique opportunity to identify and solve real life problems through designing and manufacturing prototypes and models. Pupils will develop their skills by designing and making imaginative, innovative, creative well made products made from a range of different materials and using a range of control aspects to develop electronic circuits, taking into account issues such as sustainability, impact on society and the environment. The final outcome that pupils will produce can consist of a high quality and well finished prototype or a final solution. Description Core Skills Reason Assessment

This GCSE course is designed to enable pupils to gain a detailed insight into the lucrative world of Business.  Pupils will study three units; Setting up a Business, Growing as a Business and Investigating Businesses, through various topics including Marketing, Finance, People in Business and Operations Management.


The specification is delivered using a variety of teaching methods including; teacher-led lessons, worksheets, case studies, group work, individual study and visits to Organisations, where they will have opportunity to apply their knowledge to a real-life scenario.  Pupils will also have access to ICT facilities throughout the course.
